Airport in Radom. The Ministry of Infrastructure wants to encourage airlines to run flights from Radom

The airport in Radom, the eye in the head of some Law and Justice politicians, was built, but there are no aircraft on it – except for one. To Rome. Porty Porty wants to spend up to PLN 10 million on an extra charge to airline lines, but they fly from Radom.

Friday. The middle of the picnic, and at the airport in Radom only time for the next departure. The next and only plane will fly to Rome on Saturday, and the next one – this Wednesday.

However, there are plenty of tourists. – We are from Gdańsk, we visit a family in Radom and we came to see. At first glance: firecracker, a very nice place, only a bit empty – admits Mr. Maciej from Gdańsk.

– There are no passengers, I also don't know, everything makes no sense. As you see, the whole terminal is empty and the course must be done – notes the driver of the city bus in Radom.

The Ministry of Infrastructure wants to encourage airlines to fly from Radom

The expansion of the airport consumed about PLN 800 million. However, there is a new plan for the Radom port. – We want to create a marketing support system, a system of incentives and this is one of the elements of this strategy – indicates Anna Szumańska from the Ministry of Infrastructure.

This encouragement is millions of zlotys. Polish airports have announced a tender for the promotion of the airport. Money will be given to carriers who will advertise the Radom port. In practice, it is an additional flight surcharge. – This promotion is to serve only to attract potential airlines to the airport in Radom, which will want to perform their operations from there – says aviation journalist Tomasz Białoszewski.

– If we have to pay extra to the passenger of any line or for a travel agency, it means that there is simply this passenger there – believes Adrian Furgalski from a team of economic advisers.

In the infrastructure ministry, they are still wondering how to fill the airport. – We try to repair it, we try to look for alternative solutions to save public funds – explains Anna Szumańska.

In Radom, they believe that the airport will develop wings

Argument once used by a politician PISthat the airport in Radom is closer to Africa than in Warsaw, it probably does not convince the airlines. – If airports in Zielona Góra, Olsztyn, Kraśnik (Lublin – ed.) Or in many other places would not be supported, they would not exist today – says Radosław Fogiel from PiS.

– In many other places in Poland this type of practice is also used, but I think I could mention a few other places where it is much more rational than in Radom – says Tomasz Białosewski.

In Radom, over 112,000 passengers benefited from the airport last year. The owner is Polish airports. Taxpayers from Radom are also added to the port, over PLN 18 million a year. – We give PPL outlays incurred in the form of investments on the land of our city- says President Radom Radosław Witkowski.

The city still believes that the airport will develop wings. – A breakthrough year will be 2027, when Chopin Airport must undergo planned modernization to increase its capacity. Then I hope that carriers, especially those low -cost, charter, will choose the airport in Radom – adds Radosław Witkowski.
