Albania. An important step towards the European Union. The law is being implemented

Until opening first negotiation chapters took place during the intergovernmental conference with Albania w Luxembourg. This means that Tirana has advanced to the stage implementation of EU law into its legal order, starting in the area of ​​fundamental rights.

Albania opened the first so-called a cluster of chapters called basic because of reforms to strengthen democracy and the rule of law it embodies.

In accordance with the law passed in 2020. reform of the accession process only after they are closed EU candidate country can move on to negotiating the rest of the chapters from the remaining groups: internal market, competitiveness, climate policy, agriculture and external affairs.

The basic cluster includes, among others: functioning of democratic institutions, reform of public administration and judiciary, ensuring fundamental rights, public procurement and financial control.

Albania submitted application to enter the EU in 2009 and was granted candidate status in 2014.

On the accession path Albania overtook North Macedoniaalthough until now both countries have been walking it together. North Macedonia however, it failed to include the Bulgarian minority in its constitution.

Meanwhile change of constitutionwhich requires a two-thirds majority in parliament, is a condition for opening the first negotiation chapters.

Albania was also ahead Ukraine i Moldovawith which the EU started accession talks in July. Both countries only the opening of the first cluster awaits.
