Strong winds hit northern and western Germany on Monday evening. At least three people were injured. Difficult weather conditions caused disruptions to road, rail and ferry transport.

The states of Schleswig-Holstein, Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia were most affected by the storms. Police reported that at least three people were injured, and one of them (in Lower Saxony) was in a critical condition. A 60-year-old man was hit in the head by a falling tree near the town of Elsfleth.

Trains and ferries canceled

High-speed rail services on the Hamburg-Berlin and Ludwigslust-Wittengerge routes were suspended on Monday. Difficulties also occurred on the Hamburg-Hanover line, among others. On Tuesday, most train traffic runs normally.

Due to a strong storm in the North Sea, ferries to the Halligen islands and from Rostock to Gedser in Denmark were canceled. High waves were breaking onto the land. Fallen trees blocked traffic on the roads.
