The 2024 YR4 asteroid was discovered in December last year. It was immediately informed that in a few years he could hit our planet. On Tuesday, the NASA and ESA space agencies gave new calculations, determining the likelihood of collision.
After two months of research, scientists with NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA) excluded almost any threat from the Asteroid 2024 YR4 – AP agency said on Tuesday. Earlier, the probability of colliding an object with the ground was up to 3 percent.
The earth will probably pass safely
ESA reduced the risk of the asteroid collision with the ground to 0.001 percent, and NASA to 0.0027 percent, which, according to scientists, means that on December 22, 2032, the object will pass the land safely and will not threaten it for the next one hundred years.
At the same time, according to the American space agency, there is 1.7 percent. A chance that the asteroid will hit the moon that day. This means an increase in probability – they were estimated at 0.8 percent last week.
As assured, telescopes around the world will follow the asteroid. In March, James Webb's telescope is to determine its size, which is currently estimated at about 40 to 90 meters. The building was discovered in December 2024 and since then it was at the top of the Asteroid list, which pose a threat to Earth.
