Bears appeared on Saturday in Zakopane Kuźnice, close to the popular trail. These animals are becoming more and more active, and in the vicinity of human headquarters they are attracted by the smell of kitchen waste. If we come across an animal, we should be careful.

More and more active
“Already in mid -March there were the first reports about the activity of the Bear in the Tatra Mountains, about the fact that they woke up from winter sleep and are looking for food. These last days, with the recurrence of winter, caused that this food was more difficult for them,” explained the guide and educator of the Tatra National Park Tomasz Zając.
The naturalist reminded that the bear is omnivorous – he does not despise plants, but if he manages to find carrion, he will eagerly eat it. In the early spring, bears often look for food near human housing estates, attracted by the smell of kitchen waste.
“We urge you to secure garbage bins and composters, as far as possible, because bears usually approach the estates that are on the border with the Tatra National Park” – he emphasized.
How to behave in the case of a meeting?
The expert pointed out that the bears do not attack people if they are not provoked. Particular care should be taken in the case of bear with the young. If you see a bear from afar, you should move away in the opposite direction and not pay attention to yourself. Also, do not run or make violent movements.
“Spring is a fairly specific time for bears – they are hungry after the winter,” said Tomasz Zając.
