Police pursuit of a road pirate near Bełchatów (Łódź Voivodeship). The 28-year-old was speeding, did not respond to police light and sound signals, broke a number of regulations and ended up driving in a ditch, hitting energy-absorbing barriers. He faces up to five years in prison.
The incident took place on the morning of January 7. In the town of Oleśnik, officers from the Road Traffic Department of the Bełchatów police carried out activities aimed at road pirates. Their attention was drawn to a Renault Megane car whose driver was traveling at excessive speed, and the driver overtook the vehicle in front of him on a double continuous line.

The police decided to stop the driver. – Turning on light and sound signals ordering them to stop for a road check, they started chasing him. However, the vehicle's driver continued driving, constantly increasing speed. While escaping from police control, he broke subsequent road traffic regulations and posed a threat to other road users. Driving at excessive speed, he was approaching the intersection of Świętojańska Street and Ampera Street. During a right-turn maneuver, he lost control of the vehicle, left his lane and fell into a ditch, hitting protective barriers. Fortunately, the 28-year-old resident of Bełchatów was not injured and was sober – reports Chief Inspector Iwona Kaszewska from the police in Bełchatów.
The 28-year-old lost his driving license and was detained. He will be responsible, among other things, for failing to comply with an order to stop a motor vehicle for a road inspection, which is punishable by up to five years in prison. He must also take into account liability for road traffic offenses committed. The court will decide on his further fate.
