On the night from Monday to Tuesday, a rare Black Moon will appear in the sky, the first since 2022. Although this phenomenon is completely invisible, it will be worth looking at the sky tonight.
According to the EarthSky website, the new Black Moon will fall at 11:26 p.m. Central European Time on the night from Monday to Tuesday.
What is the Black Moon?
Black Moon is the common name for the second new moon in a given calendar month. It occurs on average every 29 months. The last time the phenomenon occurred was in April 2022, and the next one after December will take place in August 2027. According to another definition, a “Black Moon” is an additional new moon that occurs at a given time of year.
Its “full” counterpart is the Blue Moon, which we could last admire in August 2024.
Although we cannot see this phenomenon for obvious reasons, it will still be worth looking at the sky on the night from Monday to Tuesday. The new moon is an excellent opportunity for astronomical observations – if the weather allows it, of course.
