This week, a mechanoscopy expert will examine the truck that was involved in a collision on S7, in which four people died, said Mariusz Duszyński from the District Prosecutor's Office in Gdańsk. He added that the vehicle would also be weighed. Autopsies of the victims are also being carried out on Monday.
The truck that participated on Friday will be checked this week pileup on the renovated section of the S7 road. An appointed mechanoscopy expert will examine the vehicle for any pre-accident damage that could have influenced the course of the disaster.
– This is a routine action that is performed after fatal accidents – said prosecutor Mariusz Duszyński on Monday.
He added that the truck would also be weighed. This will allow you to determine whether it has been overloaded. – If it turns out that the vehicle was overloaded, it will be an additional aggravating circumstance for the driver – explained the prosecutor.
It's scheduled for Monday autopsy four victims of a road accident. So far, the identities of two of them have been confirmed: they are boys aged 7 and 10. The details of the remaining two people will be confirmed after DNA tests.
The driver was sober and did not use his phone
A 37-year-old truck driver was charged with causing a land traffic disaster that threatened the life and health of many people and large-scale property, resulting in four deaths and fifteen injuries. The man in the prosecutor's office did not plead guilty to the charges and refused to provide explanations. He only answered questions from his defenders.
On Sunday, the prosecutor's office revealed that toxicological tests did not reveal the presence of psychoactive substances. – This means that the driver was sober at the time of the incident and was not under the influence of psychoactive substances – said Duszyński.
He added that the tachograph records show that at the time of the collision with other vehicles, the truck was traveling at a speed of 89 km/h, and on this section of the road the permissible speed is 80 km/h.
Tests of the suspect's phone showed that it was not used during the incident.
No arrest
The prosecutor's office requested the application of pre-trial detention for three months, arguing, among other things, that Mateusz M. could face a high penalty. For causing a land traffic disaster, he faces up to 15 years in prison.
Mariusz Duszyński announced on Sunday evening that however, the court decided to place the suspect under police supervision.
– There is a court decision. Police supervision. The court obliged the suspect to appear at the appropriate police station seven times a week, Duszyński said.
On Monday morning, he added that the prosecutor who submitted the application to the court had not yet decided to file an appeal against the court's decision. – The prosecutor must familiarize himself with the written justification and current evidence – he explained.
