Strong winds capsize boats on lakes
Rafał Melnyk from the Provincial Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Olsztyn reported that as a result of strong winds two sailboats capsized on Lake Narie near Kretowiny Ostróda. Police watermen, rescuers from the Volunteer Water Rescue Service and firefighters rushed to help. They rescued a total of five people from the water. No one was hurt. The sailors were transported to shore. According to firefighters, in the Giżycko district, rescue services recorded a total of six boat capsizes, including on lakes Kisajno and Niegocin. The MOPR officer on duty reported that “a lot is currently happening on the water, one person is being searched for, people are in the water”. On the Vistula Lagoon in Elbląg district, rescuers also received a report of an overturned sailboat. The Maritime Search and Rescue Service pulled two people from the water. Due to difficult weather conditions, firefighters were unable to reach the site. In the Pisz district, on Lake Bełdany, MOPR rescuers rescued four sailors from the water when their sailboat capsized. Other sailors also rushed to help them. In Nowa Ukta, also in Pisz County, a tree crushed a man. He was taken to hospital. On Sunday morning, the Warmia-Masuria firefighters received 540 reports due to the weather. These were primarily fallen trees and broken branches. In Ostróda, at ul. 3 Maja, leaning trees posed a threat to participants of a music festival. About 150 people evacuated from the campsite before the firefighters arrived.
