There is no need to convince anyone that work does not always equal pleasure. However, there is a big difference between a bad day and a constant lack of willingness to act.
Psychologist MichaÅ‚ Murgrabia explains that burnt-out people experience a lack of motivation for professional activity, a lack of meaning and conflicts at work. – If all this accumulates, then we can talk about symptoms related to burnout – he adds.
According to a report by UCE Research and the ePsychologi.pl platform, almost 80 percent of professionally employed people experience one of the symptoms of burnout. This is 13 percentage points more than three years ago.
Symptoms of burnout
Constant fatigue from work is not only a professional issue – bad emotions can also spill over into your private life. – A situation in which we have some meetings or family events planned after a whole day of work, in which we feel completely burnt out, it is very difficult for us to magically switch over and enter the excited atmosphere and enjoy life – says MichaÅ‚ Murgrabia.
The most common symptoms of burnout are: fatigue, lack of energy and satisfaction, increased distance from work, irritability and decreased efficiency.
– Poles are very hard-working, they are also very ambitious and have a tendency to overload themselves, because burnout is actually an overload of responsibilities with a simultaneous inability to take care of themselves in the area of ​​work and professional development – explains the dean of the College of Pedagogical Sciences, Maria Rotkiel.
As experts point out, work culture has a huge impact on our well-being. – At work, we often feel uncared for by our superiors and the culture in general – says sociologist Dr. Jowita RadziÅ„ska. – A person, like at a doctor, does not feel treated as a whole – he adds.
Burnout more often affects young people
– It is a myth that burnout affects people with long work experience. I would say it's the other way around, says Maria Rotkiel.
When it comes to fatigue and lack of energy, people aged 18-24 are at the forefront of the study. – These are people who approach reality in the workplace a bit idealistically – explains labor market expert Aneta Czernek. – They encounter the fact that these activities are often, for example, repetitive, demotivating, uninspiring, and do not develop them – he adds.
Representatives of Generation Z can, unlike many people older than them, be particularly assertive in the workplace. – They can come to their boss and say that everything is not quite as it should be – says MichaÅ‚ Murgrabia. – If he keeps bouncing off the wall, it's a simple recipe for dismissal from this job – he adds.
Because in professional life you cannot put your own expectations in the background.
