The crocodile who starred in the biggest Australian hit of all time – the film “Crocodile Dundee” – has died. The Crocosaurus Cove Herpetarium, where he lived, announced the death of the over 90-year-old reptile.

Burt, saltwater crocodile (Crocodylus porosus), became the world's most famous reptile after the great success of the film “Crocodile Dundee” and its sequel. The animal starred alongside Paul Hogan and Linda Kozlowski.

“It is with great sadness that we inform you that Burt (…), the star of the Australian classic, has passed away,” the staff of the Crocosaurus Cove herpetarium wrote on Facebook. “At the age of 90, Burt passed away peacefully over the weekend, marking the end of a remarkable era,” the post said. The saltwater crocodile is the largest living reptile today. Males can reach up to 6.3 meters in length and weigh over 1.3 tons.
