Behind Klaudia Zwolińska by far the best year in her sports life. In May last year, almost 365 days ago (then the competition took place on May 18), the Polish woman won the European championship in the K1 category. It was almost a knockout on rivals, because the silver medalist Zuzana Pankova from Slovakia overtook over 5 seconds.
She started very well. Later it was much worse
Three months later she became one of the ten Polish medalists of the Paris Olympic Games. In the town of Vaires-Sur-Marne, where the whole competition of mountain canoeists took place, Zwolińska won silver. Only Australian Jessica Fox succumbed, while being the best of European. This bode well before the next championships of the Old Continent in 2025. In addition, they took place exactly in the same place as the games, i.e. in Vaires-Sur-Marne.
It started very well. On Friday, May 16, she sailed in the qualifying round and took the 2nd place. The warning came in Saturday's semi -finals. Fortunately, our representative got into the finals, but took a bit of a dead 12th place. All because she touched the stake twice, for which she received four seconds of punishment (without her she would be in Top 3). At this stage, Hanna Danek (22nd place) fell out of the competition.
Great disappointment in France. Zwolińska far from the medal
However, the finale was the most important and the fans waited for him the most. Unfortunately, it turned out that it was simply not her day. Zwolińska, unfortunately, did not avoid mistakes in it, which cost her very dearly. The Olympic runner -up was not even close to the medal zone, because it took 9th place with a loss of 3.53 s to the bronze medalist Slovak Zuzana Pankova (the one she defeated a year ago). Silver was won by Czech Gabriel Satkov, and gold will go to Germany with Ricarda Funk (the Polish woman lost 7.84 s). Perhaps the unsuccessful performance in K-1 will make up for herself in C-1. The semi -finals are already on Sunday, May 18.
