Our representative sensationally succumbed to Alexander Eali in the quarter -finals, incurring the first defeat with a player from outside the top 100 WTA ranking since 2021 (then she lost to Ana Konjuh also in Miami).
Dawid Celt was shocked by what he saw
While the defeat with Mirra Andriejew in Dubai and Indian Wells could be largely explained to the huge class of rival, so in this case, with all respect for the great game of Eali, the Polish woman should not have been allowed to do so. Unfortunately, Świątek lost to herself again. From beginning to end it was clearly tense and had a problem in virtually every element of tennis craft. – For me, it was a big surprise that Iga did not use her experience at all. I did not see that the second rocket in the world was coming out, such an experienced tennis player, so titled. Iga did not feel such “damn, she is to be afraid of me, not me.” This tournament looked different in general. She pushed the match against Mertens, defended the set with Garcia. I was a very interesting match with Switolina, I was afraid of him. But okay, quite solid, it calmed me down a bit. In my life I wouldn't think that after such a match with Switolina, I can see such a picture – said Celt.
