The President of Krakow Aleksander Miszalski reminded that greenery in the city was one of the priorities of his election campaign. The city authorities are planning to buy more areas for parks and green areas.

As Miszalski donated, from May 2024 to March this year, Krakow purchased green areas with a total area of ​​over 5 ha, spending nearly PLN 4.2 million for this purpose. In this year's budget – the president pointed out – for the first time a separate amount was reserved for this purpose in the amount of PLN 6 million.

He announced that this year the second Krakow Wiśniowa Aleja will be built, modeled on a very popular walking area among the inhabitants located at ul. Armii Krajowej and Bronowicka, planted with 32 played cherry trees. Aleja will be built in the Millennium Park in Mistrzejowice and will be planted with 20 flowering trees. The investment cost will be 35-40 thousand zloty.

Katarzyna Opałka, chosen as a municipal gardener, will perform a key role in work for greenery in the city – pointed out. This position is located in the structure of the City Architect Office.

– Her tasks include the coordination of the activities of all entities dealing with greenery in the city and creating a common, coherent vision of caring for green areas – calculated Miszalski. According to him, the municipal gardener is also to ensure that the provisions on nature protection are being enforced and cooperate with with entities running family allotment gardens, social gardens, cooperatives and housing communities, ecological organizations and other institutions affecting the natural environment of Krakow.

Katarzyna Opałka emphasized that her main challenge is greening the streets in Krakow, and “as a city we have a very large lesson to make up for this regard”. – I dream that in a dozen or so, several dozen years, Cracovians could walk in the shade of trees along the streets – she announced.

She added that one of her main tasks is to ensure that the greenery is no longer omitted with new urban investments; It is now to be designed and treated equally with road, pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure. This will take place as part of her green audit.

Opałka announced that as part of the “Green Streets” project on the so -called Concrete deserts will appear trees, vegetation, and elements of small architecture. This year, such action is to be carried out on the streets of Wrocławska, Garncarska, Zamoyski, Asnyk, Kalwarjska and Friedlein. Ultimately, such changes are to apply to streets in every district.
