– But if there is a strong group of European countries that are ready to provide Ukraine with such security guarantees, I am deeply convinced that the Czech Republic should be one of them. I understand that it sounds like a banality, but I honestly believe that we do it largely for ourselves – noted Pavel.

Two security pillars

According to the Czech president, security guarantees for Ukraine may consist of two elements: a mineral resource agreement with USA and stabilization military forces from European countries. Speaking of a potential agreement between Ukraine and the USA, Pavel noticed that due to the presence of American business in Ukraine, “we can expect (USA) to protect these interests.” Another element of the warranty, according to the Czech President, will come from European countries, which “declared their readiness to support Ukraine.” – Now we are talking mainly about the newly created so -called “coalition” countries that can and want to send stabilization military forces to Ukraine after reaching a peace agreement – he explained.

The issue of Ukraine in NATO “open to the future”

Asked why he does not consider Ukraine membership in NATO For security guarantee, Pavel pointed to the position of US President Donald Trump in this matter. – We have already seen that the American president rejected the option of rapid accession to NATO. If it becomes an obstacle to reaching a peace agreement, then it will be so. After all, NATO membership is not a matter of several months. It will take more time – said the Czech president. At the same time, he added that this issue should not be completely rejected. – Let's leave this issue open to the future because politicians come and go. There will be a different government in the United States in three years. And we can see a different point of view under the new administration – summed up President Pavel.
