There are requests to waive the immunities of MPs Krzysztof Szczucki and Jan Krzysztof Ardanowski and MEP Daniel Obajtek. – There is a specific group of PiS politicians whom the prosecutor's office wants to bring charges against. So far, like the devil from holy water, they have been running away from the opportunity to present their explanations. I would like to hope and believe that someone will break this bad custom, said Senator Krzysztof Kwiatkowski.
Attorney General Adam Bodnar sent motions to the Sejm to waive the immunity of deputies – Jan Krzysztof Ardanowski (near Wolnia Republicans) and Krzysztof Szczucki (PiS) and PiS MEP Daniel Obajtek.
Politicians of the ruling coalition and MPs from Law and Justice commented on the announcement.
“Like the devil from holy water, they ran away from the opportunity to present their explanations”
Senator, former Minister of Justice and Attorney General Krzysztof Kwiatkowski in a conversation with TVN24 reporter Radomir Wit expressed hope that PiS MPsagainst whom the applications have been submitted, will waive their immunities. – PiS politicians have repeated many times that innocent people have nothing to be afraid of – he said.
– All these politicians have one thing in common, or actually two, that there is a specific group of PiS politicians whom the prosecutor's office wants to charge in connection with the possibility of committing a crime. And the second fact that has bound them so far is that, like the devil from holy water, they ran away from the opportunity to present their explanations – he noted. – I would like to hope and believe that someone will break this bad custom – he added.
Czarnek about Obajtek's immunity
In the Sejm, journalists also asked PiS MP PrzemysÅ‚aw Czarnek for a comment on the matter. – Well, if Obajtek loses his immunity, he will lose it. Thank you very much, he said. – If you find someone in this government who will lead Orlen, at least half as much as Obajtek, I will high five you – he added.
Sawicki about the prosecutor's suspicions
Marek Sawicki, PSL-TD MP, also spoke on the matter. – I have been repeating for half a year that I would be fully satisfied if, instead of charges and a motion to waive immunity, there were real indictments submitted by the prosecutor's office to the court and if we had at least ten first-instance judgments. It would be a success, he said. – It's all too slow, too long (it takes – editor) – he said.
Sawicki also referred to the prosecutor's suspicions towards Ardanowski. – This is a matter of intervention in the apple crisis (…) and burning through about one hundred million zlotys, and the second issue is that it has never happened before, to intervene in a farmers' cooperative with public money when we had the bankruptcy of this cooperative managed by a Law and Justice politician, and also there was an intervention. Therefore, the prosecutor's office may have found that the prosecutor's office exceeded its powers or failed to fulfill its duties, he said.
Kropiwnicki: it was only about political action
Justifying the motion to waive the immunity for Obajtek, the prosecutor's office stated that the MEP's behavior consisted of concluding two contracts for a total amount of over PLN 393,000 regarding the provision of detective services. According to the prosecutor's office, the contracts “were intended to serve private interests and collect information on the assets, personal data and private life of opposition politicians.”
The TVN24 reporter also asked the deputy minister of state assets, Robert Kropiwnicki from the Civic Coalition, who had previously informed that he was one of the people under surveillance, about the assessment of the prosecutor's office's conclusions in the case of Daniel Obajtek. – This is almost PLN 400,000 spent on surveillance of members of the then opposition, including me – he said.
– I am fully convinced that it was only about political action, that Obajtek wanted to launch a political attack on the MPs who blamed him for his mismanagement during the merger with Lotos or the sale of Lotos' assets. Let me remind you that this was the moment when we criticized this project very strongly and then he ordered the tracking of MPs in order to collect information on us. Fortunately, he didn't succeed, he commented.
