The competition for the most important nominations in the new American administration is really a bulldog fight under the carpet – said former Polish ambassador to the United States, Marek Magierowski, on TVN24. The guest of “Rozmowa Piaseckiego” admitted that he had “mixed feelings” regarding the already announced nominations. He commented extensively on several of them.

In Thursday's “Piasecki's Conversation” the former Polish ambassador to the United States Marek Magierowski referred to the nominations in the future administration of the US president-elect Donald Trump.

– I have mixed feelings. There have indeed been a few names that have emerged over the last few days, as well as formal nominations announced by President Trump himself. Some of them made me personally happy, and some made me very sad, he said.

Tulsi Gabbard? “Very controversial”

He referred to the nomination for Tulsi Gabbard as Director of National Intelligence, coordinator of all U.S. intelligence services. – These are 18 agencies with budgets of several dozen billion dollars. And this is a person who became famous for many – I wonder what word to use – pro-Russian statements, he said.

– Even many of her colleagues from the Republican Party – incidentally, she was a Democrat who switched to the other side – officially and publicly criticized her for certain formulations. She wrote, among other things, on Twitter that she thought it was Ukraine she provoked Russia to the war, that there are actually laboratories in Ukraine where production is carried out biological weapons. Everything that Russian, Kremlin propaganda suggested in the United States, she picked up – said Magierowski.

He pointed out that Tulsi Gabbard met with Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad. – She was also often criticized for this and emphasized that she did not feel obliged to explain it at all – he said.

– She also criticized the American operation when Qassem Soleimani, one of the most important figures in Iranian politics in Baghdad, was liquidated. She criticized this step by President Trump – because he was the one who issued the order – very sharply, he noted.

He concluded that he was a “very controversial figure”. – And of course, if she became a congresswoman, head of the energy department, or any other department, we wouldn't be so worried. But since she becomes the head of all American intelligence, it is certainly a very disturbing signal, he added.

Pete Hegseth? “Yesterday I heard his name for the first time.”

Magierowski also commented on the nomination TV presenter Pete Hegseth as head of the Pentagon.

– I must admit that I heard his name for the first time yesterday morning. As an excuse, I will add that half of Washington did not know this man before, he said.

– This is a Fox News presenter who, of course, has military experience and served in the US Army – he said.

He admitted that this nomination also causes him concern “due to ignorance, but also due to a number of his statements.” – It is so that the debate on the current state of the American army during the election campaign on the part of Republicans, or Trump himself, focused on how much the American army is dominated by the so-called culture of “wokeism” – Magierowski pointed out.

– That is, gender culture, equal rights, broadly speaking – added Konrad Piasecki. – And social progress – added the TVN24 guest.

– And this was the biggest concern of President Trump and his closest associates. Since Pete Hegseth has spoken on this very topic many times as a veteran, but also as a political commentator on Fox News, I think it caught Trump's eye and hence the nomination between them – he concluded.

Marco Rubio? “I can only speak in superlatives”

Magierowski commented on the information confirmed by Trump that it was Senator Marco Rubio will be the new US Secretary of State.

– I can only speak highly of Marco Rubio. I had the opportunity to talk to him, not alone, of course, on the occasion of Jakub Kumoch's visit, when he was still a minister in the president's office – he said.

– This is an important figure also from our point of view, as he is a man who has been the deputy head of the Senate Intelligence Committee, but also the Foreign Affairs Committee, for many years, and has enormous knowledge, really deep, unlike many other American politicians, about Central and Eastern Europe – Magierowski pointed out.

– I remember that the conversation with him at that time, Fr war in Ukraine was very fruitful. And he de facto identified with our views on what was happening beyond our eastern border, he added.

“Probably more anxiety than optimism”

Magierowski was asked whether if he were to briefly summarize everything that has been happening around the new Trump administration since November 5, would it be a sentence full of anxiety or rather reassuring.

– 60 to 40 percent more or less. There is probably more concern than optimism, unfortunately, due to these two or three quite controversial nominations, not only from our point of view, but also in Washington itself and in Republican circles. This is really a fight of bulldogs under the carpet, this competition and competition for the most important nominations – commented Magierowski.

As he pointed out, “these most important positions have already been de facto filled.” – It is also worth mentioning John Ratcliffe, who will become the new boss CIA. And this is also a good nomination, he is a very experienced man who understands the world. But these other nominations are strange, he concluded.
