Donald Tusk announces a year of breakthrough. Economists in “Facts after Facts” comment

Prime minister Donald Tusk During the presentation of the government's government plans in the building of the Warsaw Stock Exchange, he said that 2025 it will be a breakthrough year. He said that this is already happening, and investments this year will reach “record” PLN 650 billion.

Economist from the Society of Polish Economists dr Małgorzata Starczewska-Krzysztoszek and economist from the Warsaw University of Technology and the Vistula Academy prof. Witold Orłowski commented on the announcements of the head of the government.

Dr. Starczewska-Krzysztoszek said that the entrepreneurs “were a bit disappointed because there was a little little about them.” – There were rather infrastructure, government and public investments. Prof. Orłowski also pointed out that “this is probably the first time the government met with the economic world.” – It is starting to be a priority in government, so far it has not been. (…) It is a pity that not earlier – he said.

He noted that “the economy will grow in a healthy way” if “our enterprises will invest much more than before, also in new technologies.” – As the prime minister said: investments, investments, investments. It's honey for the hearts of economists – said the expert.

The prime minister during the Monday presentation indicated that 2025 is to be record -breaking in terms of investment expenditure. According to Donald Tusk, “investments in Poland in 2025 will amount to over PLN 650 billion and this is cautious respect.”

Dr Starczewska-Krzysztoszek said that in 2023 PLN 603 billion was allocated to investments, and from non-residential data from 2024 it follows that about PLN 620 billion was allocated. “It doesn't make a big difference from my point and,” I think, “all economists,” she said.

– One thing is a value, i.e. how much money we will spend on investments. But maybe even much More important is what these investments will be allocated to – Will they be pro -development, pro -efficiency, or will we simply spend money on infrastructure investments that will not support economic development – the expert added.

Prof. Orłowski estimated that “650 billion this year would be very, very unsatisfactory.” – I hope it will be over PLN 700 billionwe need the so -called investment rate, i.e. the investment relationship for GDP, which is currently around 18 percent, and we need at least 20 percent or more – he estimated.

Dr. Małgorzata Starczewska-Krzysztoszek admitted that she understands this move, because “entrepreneurs know best”. “There is knowledge for entrepreneurs, if we have to regulate what should be regulated,” she said.

She also said that she had “several reservations” about the Brzoska proposal. – One reservation is that the Prime Minister said that these proposals of Mr. Brzoska's team cannot be proposals that will change the laws, i.e. I understand that it was about something that has provisions in the ordinances – she said.
