The earth shook on Sunday in the eastern part of Papua-Nowa Guinea. According to the American geological service (USGS), the earthquake had a magnitude of 5.5. The epicenter was located 46 kilometers east of the city of Lea. The hypocenter was recorded at a depth of almost 66 kilometers.
On the other hand, the German GFZ Geological Research Center said that the earthquake had a magnitude of 5.79.
Papua-Nowa Guinea is in the so-called pacific fire ring. It is a zone in which earthquakes and volcano eruption often occur. The country is quite often struggling with the earthquakes.
