Just a few years ago, Caroline Garcia was among the elite of women's tennis. Her record includes a triumph at the WTA Finals in 2022. It seemed that the Frenchwoman would permanently be in the top ten of the world ranking, but recently her performance left much to be desired. This year, the 31-year-old had problems winning even two matches in world tournaments. She managed to achieve three triumphs only in Rouen and Miami.
Caroline Garcia announces a great comeback. “It's something more”
Interestingly, her last match in 2024 was a fight against Magdalena Fręch. The Pole defeated her 7:6 (4), 7:5 in the semifinals in Guadalajara. Shortly thereafter, Garcia ended her season prematurely and made an honest confession. “I need to rest mentally. I need to break away from the constant tennis routine, go on a real vacation, reconnect with my family and loved ones and allow myself to breathe without the pressure of performing” – she wrote at the end of September. Fans wondered when she would return to the game and what her next step would be.
Now the French tennis player has once again shared some reflections with her fans. An extensive entry appeared on her X profile, in which she announced that she would take part in the Australian Open in January. “In a month, if all goes well, I will return to the Australian Open court. It is more than just a return to competition – it is a personal reckoning. I put in work every day, forcing myself to be physically and mentally ready,” we read.
Then the 31-year-old admitted that now she wanted to focus primarily on enjoying the game and not worry about dry results. “I want to discover what it means to play for myself – to pursue my own goals, find my own reasons, finally discover the joy of being a tennis player. I don't let others define me. I no longer want my goal to be to win a Grand Slam or return to the top Fridays. I want these achievements to be the result – the result of being happy, working hard and constantly improving as a player and a person,” she added.
Garcia emphasized metaphorically that she is currently “not focused on the destination, but on the journey.” Fans can only wait for the effects of her work on the court. At the moment, the Frenchwoman is in 48th place in the WTA rankings.
