The arrangement with the grouping of Szymon Hołownia was a limitation, the brake – the PSL was assessed after the collapse of the third road political scientist, Professor Agnieszka Kasińska -Metraka, who visited TVN24. At the same time, she indicated how the future of the party could go down.

Key facts:

  • On Tuesday, the third road created by PSL and Poland 2050 broke up.
  • Professor Agnieszka Kasińska-Metryka commented on TVN24 changes on the Polish political scene.
  • She indicated who could gain at the end of the third road and assessed what leader PSL needed.

Leader on Tuesday PSL Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and Szymon Hołownia, heading Poland 2050, informed about the end of the third road project. A decision was made on the PSL Council to start the election independently.

– I think that after this divorce, the party is radicalizing, i.e. it will try to fight for this voter more to the right – Professor Agnieszka Kasińska -Metryka assessed the situation of PSL. – This system with the group of Szymon Hołownia was a limitation, it was a brake, because at least this coherence was needed at least outside, and we know that ideological partners were very different from each other – she added.

Professor Kasińska-Metryka indicated where PSL, in her opinion, would look for potential voters. – PSL, looking at the success of the Confederation, Sławomir Mentzen or even Grzegorz Braun, will try this part from this right -wing electorate, maybe not so extreme, but at least very very central, recover for herself – she assessed.

“Velvety divorce”

Professor Agnieszka Kasińska -Metryka also commented on the course of “divorce” PSL and Poland 2050. – Divorce is quite velvety. At least in public some negatives did not see the light of day, which testifies to the maturity of politicians – she assessed.

– We were dealing with a marriage of a party with extremely different experiences, i.e. from veterans of the oldest PSL party after a complete debutant – the expert noted. In her opinion, PSL can definitely gain more in this situation.

“Incredibly difficult challenge”

– There is an incredibly difficult challenge ahead of the people, because on the one hand it is a matter of rebuilding identity and credibility to some extent, and secondly a very reliable analysis, who is still in this group, about which one can say that this is the PSL electorate- assessed Professor Kasińska-Metraka.

She indicated that PSL voters may not be where so far. – The political scene has rearranged to us. To the right of PSL, other groups, other proposals, and a party, which was traditionally combined with the electorate of small towns, with a rural electorate, not necessarily have these resources in the form of voters, she noted.

– Listening to the statements and looking at the actions of not only the leader, but also of these PSL politicians from the first row, I think that here, however, there will be an attempt to directly refer to farmers, to the electorate that was connected to PSL- the expert assessed. She also indicated that PSL may not be attractive to young people. – I do not imagine, for example, if PSL wanted to reach young people, it is actually a party legend that accompanies this party strongly, she is not attractive – she noted.

Leader from the rural environment

Professor Kasińska-Metryka also raised the issue of a party leader towards the new PSL situation on the political scene. – These issues related to the fact that the leader was from the rural environment is one of us, he is credible, they must now be conquered- she assessed.

– I think that all parties need rebranding, i.e. refreshing their brand. Perhaps a better proposition than a review of your own staff would be to put on someone new, but so very expressive and very credible for the electorate, which must be not so much encouraged to PSL as taken over from Law and Justice – the professor pointed out.

The expert also pointed to one political phenomenon that can be observed when a new figure appears in the leader that stands out. – In every party on the Polish political scene we see the phenomenon of braking, that is, if someone with some potential, with a certain political personality of the leader appears in the environment, then natural mechanisms indicate that he must be treated as a threat to the current leader and rather not let him develop wings – she noted.
