Equipment protecting against nuclear threats in the next package from the USA

As informed Pentagon in a statement, the new package is “the answer to the most urgent needs” Ukraine. Washington will provide Kiev with ammunition for HIMARS rocket artillery systems, howitzers and mortars, as well as drones, TOW and Javelin anti-tank missiles, and AT-4 grenade launchers. The tranche also included equipment protecting against nuclear, radiological, biological and chemical threats. Such equipment was also included in some previous packages, and this time it was included after further nuclear threats from the side Russia.

Also on Wednesday, the head of the Pentagon Lloyd Austinvisiting Laosconfirmed the reports that USA granted Ukraine permission to use American anti-personnel mines, although this weapon was not included in the latest tranche.

So far, Ukraine has received anti-tank mines from the US. As Austin explained, this is intended to stop the Russians on the battlefield and is a reaction to the change in the movement tactics of Russian soldiers, who more often leave their armored vehicles during attacks and move on foot.

Austin also noted that Washington intends to provide mines that stop working after some time, reducing the threat to civilians after the war.

Wednesday's package is the 70th tranche of weapons delivered to Ukraine since the beginning of the war and the latest announced in quick succession – as the US administration tries to wait for the inauguration of a new president Donald Trumpuse all remaining funds donated by Congress to support Ukraine. According to AP, President Biden still has the authority to transfer equipment from the US arsenal worth $7.1 billion to Ukraine.

Administration representatives have already announced that they want to finalize the granting of a loan of USD 20 billion to Ukraine by the end of the year, repaid from the profits generated by the frozen assets of the Russian central bank.
