Lightning fatally struck a 47-year-old man and his 11-year-old daughter on Mount Zhaltets in Bulgaria. The second child, who alerted the rescue service, survived and was airlifted to hospital.

The incident occurred on Monday at an altitude of about 2,000 meters above sea level, on the Zhaltets peak located in the center of the Stara Planina Mountains in Bulgaria. Despite the current weather warnings, the man and his two children went on a mountain trip during the storm. At the very top, lightning struck a 47-year-old and his 11-year-old daughter. According to the “24 Chasa” portal, at the time of the accident they were holding on to a metal rope.

The rescue operation lasted several hours.

The older son called for help and notified the mountain rescue service of the accident site. A helicopter was immediately dispatched there. The 13-year-old boy was found injured but alive and taken to a hospital in Plovdiv. The rescue operation lasted several hours. The father and daughter are the first fatalities of the severe weather situation in the country, which has lasted more than two weeks and led to large fires with serious material damage.
