Fatal data: The financial loss of Warsaw-Radom Airport for the entire year 2023 amounted to PLN 32.8 million, and in the period of 10 months of 2024 – PLN 28.6 million – said Maciej Lasek, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, in response to a parliamentary question. “Since its opening, due to the small scale of operations in the first years of operation, The Warsaw-Radom airport generates a financial loss“- he informed.
There is hope: Airport managers are constantly trying to increase its profitability. Above all, the development of the network of connections is crucial. In 2024, there were only 2 regular operators and 4 charter operators. However, their number is expected to increase. “The airport operator is in charge negotiations with 6 air carrierswho tentatively declare to operate from the Airport in the summer 2025/summer 2026 seasons, depending on, among others, its presence on the availability of the fleet,” it was reported.
Will Radom benefit from Warsaw's problems? This is facilitated by the “overload” of the Chopin Airport in Warsaw. Carriers are looking for new locations, a Radom offers them, among others: lots of free slots, availability of convenient take-off and landing times, good location and favorable financial conditions. In addition, the airport focuses on the development of facilities for air operators, cargo aviation and the commercialization of space around the terminal.
Was there any point in modernizing the airport? Maciej Lasek emphasized in response that these actions “may bring the expected result in the medium and long term, when an actual assessment of the port's operation, its efficiency and economic profitability will be possible.” However, he added that “issues regarding the reliability and economy of activities undertaken as part of the investment process of expanding the Warsaw-Radom Airport will be examined by the Supreme Audit Office“.
