The Finnish Coast Guard sent one of its patrol vessels and a tug to help the tanker after an engine failure in Gulf of Finland – reports Reuters. The fire brigade took action to prevent possible environmental damage.
It is a 183-meter tanker M/T Jazz under the flag Panamapresumably belonging to the Russian “shadow fleet”. The ship was drifting south of Finland's Hanko Peninsula, the coast guard said.
According to the services' statement tanker was on its way to a Russian port Primorsk and was not carrying a cargo of crude oil. Once the ship anchored, the seabed infrastructure was not at risk.
