Evacuations of residents from flooded towns in southern Poland are underway. The situation is dramatic in Kłodzko (Lower Silesia) and Głuchołazy (Opole). The situation is also difficult in the Silesian province. Water is seeping into buildings. Services are appealing to residents to follow evacuation orders.
After heavy rains, southern Poland is flooding. The water is breaking through embankments and protections, flooding tenement houses and houses. In some places, almost 300 liters of water per square meter fell in three days – as much as should fall in half a year. Today, it is still supposed to rain in the south of the country. The services are on standby 24 hours a day. The army has been called in to help. In many places, the evacuation of residents has been ordered. The services are appealing to follow the instructions regarding evacuation.

On Saturday, water flooded several streets. Due to flooding, several dozen people had to be evacuated from a tourist center. Train traffic was also suspended, and city buses were operating differently.
On Sunday, police reported that some streets were still flooded, making movement difficult or impossible. Several streets were closed to traffic.
The services appealed to residents to stay at home.
On Saturday, the mayor of Głuchołazy appealed to residents of the city and lower-lying villages who live within 200 meters of the river to self-evacuate. The reason was the threat that the water would break through the embankments and damage the bridge.
The worst-case scenario came true today after 6 a.m. – 400 people are being evacuated from the most endangered streets. Some evacuated themselves. There is no voluntary evacuation at the moment, we are taking everyone out, whether they want to or not – they have to leave the premises – informed the mayor of Głuchołazy, Paweł Szymkowicz.
