The Martinho storm hit the middle of the Iberian Peninsula. She brought heavy rainfall. The downpour caused rivers and the descent of mudslides, paralyzing traffic around many cities. Gazeta El Confidencial said that three people were killed as a result of the element in Spain. They lost their lives as a result of an accident that occurred in the Moncayo National Park.
Difficult situation in Madrid
On Saturday, the plaintiff, which was a consequence of heavy rains, wreaked havoc in the province of Madrid. The city of San Fernando de Henares was strongly affected by the element. There were many roads under water. One of the inhabitants of this city – Antonio – said that the destruction is huge.
– I'm terrified, everything is under water. There is so much of her that it is not even known how far it goes – he said in an interview with the Reuters agency.
The Manzanares River, which flows through the center of Madrid, reached a dangerously high level, which prompted the local authorities to issue flood warnings. The authorities appealed to the citizens of avoiding unnecessary travels and watching messages attentively.
State of emergency
The most difficult situation prevailed on Friday in Avila in the Castle and Leon region. Located on the rivers Chico and Adaja, the city was partially flooded. The swollen water cut off, among others Day Care Center – when the water broke into the basement, the staff decided to call for rescuers. 44 people were evacuated from the building, including 41 children. The residents, who were not evacuated due to their health, were transferred to the upper floors.
– We pump water from the morning, but to no avail. As soon as we remove it a bit, more flows in immediately – said one of the inhabitants of Avila, who took part in the action of the clearing of the flooded street.

Mayor Avili Jesus Manuel Sanchez announced a state of emergency in the city. He explained that the removal of the effects of floods is particularly difficult, because the land around the city is soaked in water after previous flooding – they occurred just two weeks ago. The regional authorities of Castile and Leon announced a second degree of flood alarm in the region, emphasizing that it may be increased – the snow cover melting is forecast in mountain areas, and the thaws will increase the water level in the rivers.
