For years, the holiday season has been associated with the grand finale of the joint campaign of the TVN Foundation and the editorial office of “Uwaga!”. This year is no different. This year's final at Primary School No. 2 with Integration Departments. J.Iwaszkiewicz in Olkusz was run by Ryszard Cebula and Daria Górka from the editorial office of “Uwaga!”.
The TVN Foundation's beneficiaries met at a common table, and viewers can learn about their stories.
Already 31,000 people under the foundation's care
– The needs are huge. We at the foundation have been trying to help as much as we can for 23 years. Together, we achieve these opportunities thanks to the support of our wonderful viewers – said Zuzanna Lewandowska, president of the TVN Foundation.
As she said, the TVN Foundation already has 31,000 beneficiaries throughout its history. She started by helping children, then she helped hospital departments, in the construction of hospitals, and also helps seniors. – These are people who lack money for important medicines. We at the foundation finance medicines for older people. These are often medications for half a year or a year in advance, she emphasized.
She added that the foundation faces many challenges. – We focus on protecting the mental health of children and adolescents. In January we start with Center for Psychiatry and Oncology for Children and Adolescents – said Lewandowska.
Christmas wishes and thanks from Kasia Kiela
Kasia Kieli, President & Managing Director of Warner Bros., sent Christmas wishes to the heroes of the campaign. Discovery in Poland and CEO of TVN.
– I would like to express my warmest Christmas wishes to all the heroes of our campaign. To all the heroes and their wonderful parents who struggle with reality every day, she said.
– Holidays are also a time of thanks and summaries. Therefore, I would like to express my great thanks to the TVN Foundation team and, above all, to our wonderful viewers who respond to our every call and every request. You open your hearts and I thank you for that. Thank you for being with us every day. I wish everyone a beautiful, joyful and healthy world – added Katarzyna Kieli.
This year's action heroes are:
Olek
Olek was born completely healthy. When he was 6 years old, a huge tragedy occurred in his life. He was in his bed when his pajamas and then his body caught fire. As a result of the accident, 60 percent of Olek's body was burned. Doctors gave him only a 20 percent chance of survival. – He had over a hundred hours of surgery for three months. When he woke up, he looked at me, tears flowed and he said “daddy” – recalls Artur Trzop, Olek's father.
The family fights every day so that Olek can live a normal life. Treatment costs amount to several thousand zlotys a month, and the family is in a difficult financial situation.
Zuzia
Zuzia was 8 years old when she suddenly fell and half of her body was paralyzed. It turned out that the 8-year-old had suffered a stroke. – She was very nervous that she was completely functional and suddenly she was unable to do anything, Zuzia couldn't move her arm or leg – said the girl's mother.
Zuzia goes to rehabilitation 4 times a week, including privately, but she should go more. This is expensive, as are the orthoses that are necessary to prevent limbs from deforming. Perhaps the girl will also need a psychologist due to thinking problems.
Ola
7-year-old Ola cannot speak or walk. The girl has genetic encephalopathy. Parents continue to look for methods that will get their daughter back on her feet. – Sometimes, when we talk to Ola, it's obvious that she's trying to come out of herself to say something, but she can't. Something is blocking it, says the girl's father.
In September, Ola's family home was destroyed by flood. – Ola had a small rehabilitation room adapted to her needs. And the water took it all away – laments the mother of a 7-year-old.
Money is needed not only for renovation, but above all for Ola's equipment and rehabilitation.
Raphael
Rafał developed normally after birth, but when he was 1.5 years old, everything started to change. – It got to the point where he was just lying there. He shook his head from side to side and had no strength to lift his arms. He stopped moving his legs in the same way – says Tomasz Szwajgiel, Rafał's father.
It turned out that the boy had SMA – spinal muscular atrophy. What saves Rafał's life today and is the basis of his treatment are regular visits to the Children's Health Center in Warsaw. Once every four months, Rafał goes to the hospital, spends a few days there, and a drug is administered to his spine to stop the disease.
– Without equipment, without rehabilitation, without the help of specialists, I can't imagine what it would look like – admits Mr. Tomasz.
– Unfortunately, the costs are not small. A physiotherapist costs about PLN 2,000 a month for home rehabilitation alone, and equipment in Poland costs a lot – adds the man.
Emil
8-year-old Emil suffers from congenital kidney failure. The boy was born prematurely with only one kidney, which does not work properly. Emil should undergo a kidney transplant soon.
Emil's mother died a year ago, and today the boy is taken care of by his father. Unfortunately, Mr. Mikołaj has an advanced stage of lung cancer. The extremely difficult life situation forced Emil's father to look for a foster family for his son and ask for financial support.
