Over the last 20 years, January 3 was the day when the most people died in France – the BFM TV website reported, citing data from the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Research (INSEE). It reported that the average number of deaths on that day was 1,900, compared with 1,600 deaths per day over the course of the year.

– In countries of the Northern Hemisphere, all-cause mortality rates reach their highest rates at the beginning of January – said Vincent Pradeau, president of the French National Association of Cardiologists, quoted by BFM TV.

The increase in mortality compared to the previous month is about 20 percent for men and slightly less for women.

How to explain this? “Neither hypothesis has been formally proven”

When asked how this phenomenon could be explained, Pradeau replied that “no hypothesis has been formally proven, but there are strong correlations.” In an interview with the portal, he mentioned, among other things, the difficult return of hospital facilities to normal operation after the holiday season, which may lead to an increase in the number of medical complications, increased consumption of alcohol and fatty foods during the holiday season, and a higher number of accidents due to winter road conditions.

For comparison, August 15 is the least deadly day of the year Francewith an average of 1,410 deaths.
