A young woman was imprisoned, beaten and raped for four years in the village of Gaiki in Lower Silesia. Neighbors say they knew nothing. During this time, the tortured woman was hospitalized several times with serious injuries and refused to notify the services.

My husband was painting the boards here and we really couldn't hear anything. I don't know. If he was holding her there, how did he hush it up inside, so that nothing came out? – asks Mrs. Zdzisława.

This hell was supposedly prepared for the woman by 35-year-old Mateusz J., with whom the woman initially entered into a relationship voluntarily. The man had been searching intensively for a partner for years, but according to the villagers, he was often rejected.
– He would sit at bus stops if he liked someone – recalls a resident of the village of Gaiki, who wishes to remain anonymous.
Mateusz J. met Małgorzata on a dating site. She confessed what he did to her in the hospital, where she was admitted after another beating. Then the perpetrator was arrested and heard the prosecutor's charges.
– The charges include abuse with particular cruelty combined with particular torment towards a 30-year-old woman who was in a relationship of dependence with this man by keeping her in a closed room – says Liliana Łukasiewicz from the District Prosecutor's Office in Legnica.
The suspect pleads not guilty, but the prosecutor's office has a long list of details about the last four years of the woman's life.
– Without access to daylight and media, with restrictions on giving her food, as well as abuse, beatings all over the body, kicking, hitting with other objects, and forcing her to have sexual intercourse – lists prosecutor Liliana Łukasiewicz.

The man's parents claim they knew nothing about it.
The building where all this happened is a dozen or so meters from the house where the perpetrator lived with his parents, who supported him. The parents claim they had no idea.
– I've had enough of the media. They've been here already, about ten of them. Please leave us alone, because we don't know anything – says Mateusz J.'s father, asked about the woman his son held captive for four years. – I think it's not true. Because if it had been four years, we would have seen something. It must have been shorter – he adds.
During her imprisonment, the woman ended up in hospital several times: with injuries to her arm, leg, and private parts, and with a shaved head. When asked by the staff, she allegedly replied that she was not a victim of violence and did not agree to notify the services.
She ended up in the hospital again while giving birth. Mateusz J. allegedly persuaded her to give the newborn up for adoption.
