Gas explosion in a block of flats. One wounded person, helicopter in action

The explosion took place on Friday evening in Bytom (Śląskie). As the press officer of the Bytom fire brigade, asp. Szymon Michalski, the explosion took place on the 12th floor of the building. 10 fire brigades work on site, the crew of the Air Ambulance intervened.

– We received a report about the explosion at 18:52. It was initially established that at the time of the explosion one of the tenants conducted renovation works there. It was then that the gas exploded – said asp. Szymon Michalski.

The man who was renovating managed to leave the building himself before the arrival of the services. He was transported by helicopter of the Air Ambulance to the hospital in Siemianowice Śląskie.

As a result of the explosion, two people were injured. One of the men, the 42-year-old, suffered burns and was hospitalized. The second man was covered by medical care and undergoes diagnostics.

Evacuation of residents

The other residents left the building on their own before the arrival of the rescuers. – There are 10 fire brigades on site. Firefighters extinguish the fire – said asp. Szymon Michalski.
