Georgia. Another day of mass protests after the suspension of EU accession talks

Georgians once again took to the streets. On Friday evening, thousands of people demonstrate in Tbilisi against the decision to suspend talks on the country's accession to the European Union. The action is taking place peacefully, but special forces and equipment to suppress the demonstration are prepared not far from the parliament.

On Thursday, after The Prime Minister of Georgia announced that the government is suspending talks on the country's membership in the European Union until 2028citizens took to the streets of several cities to protest. The same thing happened on Friday.

According to witnesses, there are more demonstrators in Tblilisi than on Thursday – the Echo Kawkaza website (a branch of Radio Swoboda) reported. Rustaveli Avenue in front of the parliament is blocked. The photos show that the crowd gathered there was carrying flags Georgiaas well as EU and vuvuzelas.

Protests are also ongoing in other Georgian cities, including Batumi and Kutaisi.

Special forces on standby

The action is taking place peacefully, but special forces and equipment to suppress the demonstration are prepared not far from the parliament.

Because on the night from Thursday to Friday officers began to pacify the protestusing, among others, water cannons and tear gas. According to official data, 43 people were detained and several dozen demonstration participants were injured, including about 20 journalists, the NewsGeorgia portal reported.
