The head of the European Parliament Robert Metsool informed about the punishment for Grzegorz Braun, opening on Monday a four -day meeting of the Chamber in Strasbourg.

She said that the exclusion from the meeting covers a period of 30 days and for the same period the MEP would not receive a diet. On the punishment of exclusion from the meeting andBraun himself has already been informed. He claimed that the 30 -day exclusion – given that the EP is usually gathered once a month for four days – it is to mean that he would be able to return to the meeting only in autumn. As the politician added then, exclusion from the meeting is accompanied by “certain financial penalties” and they are “original”.

“Repeated character”

Metsola emphasized that when he appointed a punishment, she took into account “the repeated nature of the disregard by Mr. Braun's norms of conduct”. As she assessed, the Polish politician, interrupting a minute of silence during the ceremony commemorating the victims of the Holocaust on January 29, caused serious damage to the PE reputation.

Earlier, in February, Braun was excluded from the meeting for two days and for the same period deprived of a diet in connection with his statement at a plenary meeting about LGBTQ people.

According to the information on the PE website, the MEP's daily diet is 350 euros. It is a lump sum covering accommodation, meals and other expenses at a time when the MEP works in the European Parliament. The daytime diet is a salary allowance.

Disturbed PE meeting

Braun disrupted the occasional meeting of the European Parliament on January 29, devoted to the memory of the victims of the Holocaust. During a minute of silence, he shouted several times “Pray for the victims of Jewish genocide in gas.” At the request of the chairwoman of the European Parliament Roberta MetSola He was excluded from the meeting and led out of the room in the Parliamentary Guard escort.

Braun was removed on January 17, 2025 by a party court from the ranks of the confederation, due to the fact that two days earlier he announced his start in the presidential election contrary to the party's recommendation for Sławomir Mentzen's candidacy.
