According to the spokesman Polish Maritime Shipping Company Krzysztof Gogol, sailors discovered drugs on Friday; the ship's captain – in accordance with procedures – informed the agent about finding suspicious cargo, who informed the police.

“The officers who arrived at the scene by helicopter revealed that the packages contained drugs. The police have initiated an investigation into the discovered contraband. An investigation is scheduled for tomorrow. questioning of crew members. No one was detained,” PAP reported on Sunday Krzysztof Gogol.

According to the PŻM spokesman, drugs they were dropped off at nightwhile the ship was waiting in the anchorage before entering the port. As Gogol said, a small unit probably approached the ship, boarded it and hid the drugs. “They were placed in one of the compartments known as void space. It is an empty room between the superstructure and the holds,” described the PŻM spokesman.
He emphasized that such rooms on the ship are sealed. When the ship was at anchor, the seals were checked regularly. On Friday morning, there was no seal at the entrance to this compartment, which was noticed by one of the sailors and alerted the vessel's captain, who took further action by informing the shipowner.
Notified about the suspicious cargo, the police sent a helicopter with officers to the ship, who determined that the parcels probably contained cocaine. Gogol claims that there were several packages. Each weighed 40 kg. They were wrapped in black foil.
He added that PŻM informed about the matter, among others. deputy minister of infrastructure Arkadiusz Marchewka. The families of the seafarers and the Polish authorities have already been notified about the incident.
Could crew members have been involved in smuggling?
A slightly different version of events was presented by G1 Globo. According to reports, the ship was in the middle of docking at night when federal police officers came on board. They allegedly found packages of drugs in a warehouse located at the bow of the ship. “There is a suspicion that cocaine was present transported with the help of crew memberswhile the ship was anchored,” we read.
The confiscated goods are to be burned. An investigation has been launched to clarify possible involvement of the crew in the crime. The services will also determine where the drugs came from and where they were to be delivered.
According to PAP, the crew of m/s “Jawor” consists of 20 people – Poles, Ukrainians, Bulgarians and Romanians. As reported by G1 Globo, the sailors on board were of Ukrainian origin.
