If you ask politicians what year it will be, many will answer: an election year. The presidential campaign will certainly dominate the political reality in the coming months, and perhaps even longer. We already learned the first chords in the pre-campaign. At the same time, questions arise whether PiS will change its candidate.

This is what Professor Antoni Dudek, a historian and former member of the Council of the Institute of National Remembrance, says about the Law and Justice candidate for president.

– I have, so to speak, more knowledge about this man due to the fact that I was associated with the Institute of National Remembrance, where he began his career. (…) This is an extremely dangerous man, which I say as a person who has been observing Polish politics for over 30 years. He is one of the most dangerous people to have appeared in Polish public space. And I say this with full conviction and responsibility – emphasizes Prof. Antoni Dudek, historian and former member of the Council of the Institute of National Remembrance.

Antoni Dudek often criticizes Donald Tusk and the ruling coalition, but he speaks even more harshly when it comes to the PiS candidate than politicians from the Civic Coalition.

– If we observe his past, his contacts, his friends, it leaves many questions about how he would behave if he accidentally won these elections – comments Bartosz ArÅ‚ukowicz, MEP, Civic Coalition.

“Fakty” TVN asked the chief of staff, Karol Nawrocki, for a comment. By the time this material was prepared, he had not reacted.

Karol Nawrocki's rival presented a New Year's message, which can be called a summary of the program. He spoke generally about community reconstruction plans and specifically about defense budget plans.

– I would like this budget to be even higher in 2026, so that we reach the level of five percent of GDP allocated to the military. I believe that we will reach an agreement on this issue beyond political divisions, said RafaÅ‚ Trzaskowski, the Civic Coalition's candidate for president.

PiS will change its candidate?

In his online speech – one of his last – Karol Nawrocki talked about history, the Greater Poland Uprising and Ignacy Paderewski. – Glory to this great musician and virtuoso, the father of Polish independence – said the Law and Justice candidate for president in the recording. The linguistic slip-up, not in real life – but in the recorded, described and edited speech, reflects not only on the candidate, but also on his staff, which is why there are still unofficial speculations and fears in PiS as to whether the candidate will need to be changed.

– There is no question of replacing the candidate. I know that many people have speculated, but I have been saying from the very beginning that there will be no change in the candidate, assures Zbigniew Bogucki, Law and Justice MP.

In his New Year's message, Andrzej Duda talked about the presidential elections, but did not directly support any candidate. He criticized the government very directly. – The focus was on deepening divisions and strengthening conflicts. This has led to chaos in the justice system and legal insecurity for Poles, and thus to the weakening of Polish democracy, the president emphasized in his speech.

In turn, at the last government meeting in 2024, the Prime Minister referred to the end of the current presidency.

– We will bear responsibility for Europe on our shoulders, on Polish shoulders, for the first six months. There will be a presidential campaign in Poland at this time. We will still be stuck in this system of law and lawlessness at the same time, at least until July. This is what I just said, but we will manage it, assured Donald Tusk.

Chaos in the Polish justice system was started by Andrzej Duda, who at the beginning of his presidency did not swear in three legally elected judges of the Constitutional Tribunal. His presidency ends this year.
