A drunk 31-year-old man lost control of the car on the S5 route in Kościan (Greater Poland Voivodeship). The man drove off the road, hit an energy-absorbing barrier and then rolled over. Both the driver and passenger were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
– A tragedy almost occurred due to thoughtlessness and lack of imagination – say police officers from Kościan (Greater Poland Voivodeship). This concerns the incident on December 17 on the S5 route between the Kościan Północ and Kościan Południe junctions.
It was initially established that the driver of the Opel lost control of the car, drove off the road, then hit an energy-absorbing barrier and rolled over. It is possible that this situation would not have occurred if it were not for the fact that the driver was under the influence of alcohol.
– The sobriety test showed 2.94 per mille of alcohol in his body. A 45-year-old passenger was traveling with him. Both men were transported to hospital. Fortunately, their injuries turned out to be minor, said Asp. Jarosław Lemański, spokesman for the District Police Headquarters in Kościan.
It is known that the 31-year-old was taken to hospital for observation. No action has been taken on him yet and no action is planned on Wednesday, we learned from the police station.
“This is another example of extreme irresponsibility.”
The spokesman openly says that both the driver and the passenger were very lucky. A vehicle rollover at high speed can result in death. – This is another example of extreme irresponsibility on the road. Driving under the influence of alcohol is a deadly threat to all road users – reminds Lemański.
On December 17 alone, 245 drivers were detained across Poland after consuming alcohol. One hundred forty-nine – this is the smallest number of drivers detained in one day this month. According to data from the Police Headquarters, 6,055 drivers were caught double throttle in November.
The police appeal for caution and not to get behind the wheel after drinking alcohol. Even a small amount impairs the ability to assess the situation and delays the driver's reaction.
Driving under the influence of alcohol is punishable by imprisonment, a high financial penalty and a driving ban, as well as forfeiture of the vehicle.
