Police detained a man at the Capitol who had a torch and a rocket launcher. “He smelled of gasoline,” the services reported. Voting was temporarily suspended in Georgia due to bomb threats coming from Russian domains. Similar threats have also been reported in other states.
Capitol Police said Tuesday they detained a man with a torch and a rocket launcher. “A man who smelled of gasoline was detained at the entrance to the Capitol Visitor Center, where tours of the building begin,” the service said. It was also reported that he had two containers which, when opened, emitted the smell of gasoline.
The visitor center has been temporarily closed.
Bomb threats in Georgia
According to the FBI, voting was temporarily suspended in Georgia due to emails about bomb threats sent from Russian domains. Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, who is responsible for elections, said that two polling places were closed in Fulton County near Atlanta for this reason. Raffensperger said the threats were not credible but needed to be verified. Voting in these polling stations may be extended.
The FBI said similar threats have also been reported in other states, but “none of the threats have been deemed credible to date.”
