The well-known prosecutor Marzena Kowalska wants to retire, i.e. retire as a prosecutor. She is the head of Investigative Team No. 2 dealing with irregularities of Zbigniew Ziobro's team at the Justice Fund. The reason for her requested departure is “personal and family reasons”. Adam Bodnar, the prosecutor general, however, wants to talk to the prosecutor about her decision – journalists from “Superwizjer” and tvn24.pl learn.
We asked the prosecutor about the reasons for her sudden decision to leave the prosecutor's office. We wanted to know if her decision was related to the court's decision on the motion to temporarily arrest Marcin Romanowski. Kowalska replied that the reason was “personal and family reasons”.
We also directed questions to prosecutor Anna Adamiak, spokeswoman for the Prosecutor General, Adam Bodnar. We asked if leaving for retirement Prosecutor Kowalska's activities are related to her function as head of the investigative team.
– The prosecutor has submitted a statement of her willingness to retire due to reaching the age that entitles her to do so. This is to happen on August 1. The prosecutor Kowalska is currently on sick leave. Mr. Adam Bodnar, the Prosecutor General, is waiting for her sick leave to end because he would like to meet with the prosecutor and talk about her decision. This is motivated by the fact that the Prosecutor General highly values ​​the work of the prosecutor, especially in the face of the challenges currently facing the prosecutor's office – Prosecutor Adamiak said.
The most difficult cases and “harassment from Ziobro's team”
It was Marzena Kowalska, as head of the investigative team, who signed the charges against the former deputy minister of justice Marcin Romanowski and his arrest order. This experienced prosecutor was deputy to the prosecutor general Andrzej Seremet in the years 2010-2016, after the separation of the prosecutor's office from the government, and supervised cases, among others, in the field of organized crime. She is responsible for solving the “Podkarpackie affair”.

Marzena Kowalska was demoted to the District Prosecutor's Office of Warsaw-Praga during the rule of the United Right. By decisions of Bogdan ÅšwiÄ™czkowski, then head of the National Prosecutor's Office and right-hand man Zbigniew Ziobroshe and the proceedings she dealt with were under special supervision. Ziobro and ÅšwiÄ™czkowski could not forget that Kowalska had previously opposed their decisions regarding the famous “land affair”.
– She suffered greatly from harassment from Ziobro's team – says one of the prosecutors cooperating with her.
