A heat wave has hit Italy once again. 42 degrees – this is the perceived temperature predicted for Rome on Monday. It will be the hottest day so far this year. Medical and social services have been put on alert. It's all because of the African anticyclone Charon, which is bringing high temperatures.

The last days of July will bring another blow from the African anticyclone (high) Charon. The heat will cover all of Italy – from the north to the south.

On Monday, the perceived temperature in Rome could reach 42 degrees. It will be the hottest day of the year so far, reports the Italian website roma.corriere.it.

According to meteorologists from ilmeteo.it, the temperature in northern Italy will be 37-38 degrees Celsius. The hottest will be in Emilia-Romagna and the lower part of Veneto, as well as in the provinces of Ferrara and Bologna. In the central part of the country, thermometers may show around 40 degrees Celsius. This value can be seen on the thermometers by residents of cities such as Rome, Terni and Florence. In southern Italy and on the islands, an average temperature of 37-38 degrees Celsius is expected. Only in Sardinia and Sicily may the temperature exceed 40 degrees Celsius.

The Eternal City is in the highest, red, heat alert level issued by the Ministry of Health. The capital's authorities emphasize in a statement that such heat can have a negative impact on the health of healthy and active people, not only the weakest and sick and seniors. Medical services are on standby due to numerous cases of fainting, including among tourists, as well as social services, which provide assistance primarily to lonely elderly people. The current heat wave is expected to last in much of Italy at least until the next weekend.
