Commenting on the visit of the head of the Hungarian government, Georgiaright after the controversial parliamentary elections, prime minister Sweden Ulf Kristersson said that Orban did not speak there on behalf of European countries or Swedenbut “probably on behalf of Russia“.
The head of the Ministry of Diplomacy commented on this situation Hungarian Peter Szijjartowho said during a break in the government meeting that “in recent days the awl came out of the bag – Brussels and European liberals cannot get over (the election results in Georgia – PAP note)”.
Orban under fire after visiting Georgia
Szijjarto also stated that Prime Minister Orban's visit was, in his opinion, “absurd” and “pathetic” criticism. – I wouldn't go into the antics of the supporting characters, so I don't think so speeches by a Polish colleague (Radosław Sikorski – PAP note) for a statement that we should be concerned about at all (Sikorski commented on Orban's visit to Georgia with the words: “I have the impression that Viktor is trying to receive the Order of Lenin”). However, if another country questions whose position and whose interests the Hungarian Prime Minister represents, then it crosses all limits and that is why you should protest in such cases, said Szijjarto.
The Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs also recalled that recently the Swedish Prime Minister had asked Budapest for support for his country's membership in NATO. Budapest, together with Ankara, vetoed the matter for a long time Swedish accession to the alliance. Finally, on February 26, the Hungarian parliament gave the necessary consent.
According to the information contained in the statement issued by the Ministry of Diplomacy, the Swedish ambassador was not only invited to the ministry's headquarters, but was also asked for the Swedish authorities to refrain from making such statements in the future. Simultaneously Peter Szijjarto warned that his ministry would monitor closely statements by leaders of other countries and, if necessary, make Budapest's position clear.
