IMWM warns about violent weather in Poland. Strong wind gusts are forecast in the south of the country over the next 24 hours. There will also be places where heavy rain will fall. Additionally, in parts of the country, roads and sidewalks will become slippery. Level 1 alerts are in effect.
The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management issued first-degree warnings on a three-level, increasing scale.
IMWM warnings – strong wind
First degree warnings against strong winds have been issued in the following voivodeships:
- West Pomeranian Voivodeshipin SÅ‚awno County;
- Podkarpackiein the following counties: Bieszczady, Sanok, Krosno, Krosno and Jasielski;
- Lesser Polandin the following counties: Gorlice, Nowy Sącz, Nowy SączLimanowski, Nowy Targ, Myślenice, Wadowice, Tatra;
- Silesianin the following counties: Żywiec, Cieszyn, Bielsko, Bielsko-BiałaPszczyna, Mikołów, ŻoryRybnik, RybnikRacibórz, Wodzisław;
- Opole provincein the following counties: GÅ‚ubczyce, Prudnik and Nysa;
- Lower Silesiain the following counties: Kłodzko, Ząbkowicki, WałbrzychWałbrzych, Kamienna Góra, Jelenia GóraKarkonosze, Lwówek, Lubań and Zgorzelec.
These areas are expected to experience strong westerly winds with an average speed of 35-50 kilometers per hour, with gusts of up to 80-85 km/h. Warnings in Western Pomerania will expire at midnight on Tuesday.
Strong gusts are expected in Lower Silesia and the Opole region between 10 a.m. on Tuesday and 2 a.m. on Wednesday. In Silesia and Małopolska it will be dangerous between 12 noon on Tuesday and 8 on Wednesday. In Podkarpacie it is expected to be windy between 2 p.m. on Tuesday and 12 on Wednesday.
IMWM warnings – heavy rainfall
For the KÅ‚odzko district in the province. Lower Silesia Level 1 warnings for heavy rainfall have been issued. Between 10 a.m. on Tuesday and On Wednesday, moderate, sometimes heavy rainfall is forecast. The amount of precipitation is expected to be 35-45 liters per square meter.
IMWM warnings – icing
Ice warnings have been issued in the following voivodeships:
- Silesianin the following counties: Cieszyn, Żywiec, Bielsko, Bielsko-Biała;
- Lesser Polandin the following counties: Wadowice, Sucha, Myślenice, Limanowa, Nowy Targ, Tatra, Nowy Sącz, Nowy Sącz, Gorlice;
- Podkarpackie;
- Lublin Provincein counties: ChełmChełm, LublinLublin, Kraśnik, Janów, Krasnystaw, Zamość, ZamośćHrubieszów and Tomaszów;
- Świętokrzyskiein the following counties: Opatów, Ostrowiec, Sandomierz and Staszów.
In some places, wet road surfaces and sidewalks are expected to freeze after sleet and wet snow, causing them to become icy. The minimum temperature at night will be from -2 to 0 degrees Celsius, the minimum temperature at the ground will be from -3 to -1 degrees Celsius.
What are IMWM first degree warnings?
When IMWM announces a first-degree warning, conditions are expected to favor the occurrence of dangerous meteorological phenomena that may cause material losses and pose a threat to health and life. Conducting business in conditions of exposure to these factors is difficult and dangerous. Expect difficulties resulting from carrying out activities in the hazardous area, including delays caused by road traffic, disruptions to outdoor events or the possibility of their cancellation. Caution is recommended, the need to follow messages and developments in the weather situation.
