The next places in the patency ranking were taken by: – Fruit – with an increase in 10.7 percent. yard, – non -alcoholic drinks – 9.8 percent, – sweets and desserts – 9.7 percent, – dairy – 9.4 percent

In turn, economic chemistry and art. Sypkie got cheaper by 2.6 and 0.4 percent, respectively. rdr.

“This product is mainly responsible for the first place”

– strong gold in February and low fuel prices They significantly affected shopping costs in stores. However, there are no reasons that would indicate a significant reduction in price growth dynamics. It is still expensive in stores. The effect of last year's high base also has a detriment of consumers. The economy is harmful to the risks in the geopolitical area and internal conflicts, which in the face of the presidential campaign seem to go to the background – commented Dr. Eng. Anna Motylska-Kuźma from the University of Lower Silesia DSW.

– The scale of butter prices, twice exceeding the result of the entire category, suggests that this product is mainly responsible for the first place of fats in the ranking. You can find the opinion that its prices are rising due to the limitation of global milk production. However, milk can also be used for cheese production. However, the cheese has been cheaper since the last fall and the butter is more expensive. This may suggest increasing cheese production at the expense of butter production – noted Dr. Marek Szymański from the University of WSB Merito.

Why are the prices of these products rising?

In February fruitwith a 10.7 percent increase in prices yard, took second place as in January, when increases in this category reached 10.2 percent. rdr.

– During this period of the year, the availability of domestic fruits is always very limited, and imports are charged with transport, storage or fluctuations exchange rates. The size of the last collections is applied to these elements, and the weather conditions inhibited production in last year. Less availability translates into strong impulses to price increase – said Anna Motylska -Kuźma.

Non -alcoholic drinks with an average increase of 9.8 percent rdr. In February, they moved one place on the list of the most expensive categories. In January they came in fourth position with an increase in 7.8 percent. rdr.

– In each of the last 12 months, the price growth rate in this category exceeded the general increases in stores. This involves the prices of components. And so, for example, orange juice stated halfway down last year, which certainly conquered production costs – noted Dr. Szymański.

Fourth in the February ranking Sweets and desserts with an increase of 9.7 percent rdr. They took the first item a month earlier with an increase of 10.4 percent. rdr.

– Sweets and desserts are still under strong price pressure, and it is worth emphasizing that the previous year brought record increases in this category. This means that despite a very high base, increases are still record -breaking. This is primarily influenced by the costs of raw materials such as cocoa, dairy products or fats, but also energy costs – pointed out Dr. Eng. Motylska-Kuźma.

In turn, the fifth in terms of February increases dairy with an average increase of 9.4 percent rdr. He got 7.2 percent in January and was then sixth in the ranking. – The basic raw material itself, i.e. milk, does not give the impression of a source of price growth at the level of 3.5 pp above the general indicator. A jump of packaging and energy prices may be more important – said Dr. Szymański.

As the authors of the report said, the next places on the list of the most expensive categories in February took fish with an increase in 6.8 percent. yard, articles for children – 6.5 percent, meat – 6.2 percent, bread – 6.2 percent, animal food – 5.6 percent, sausages – 5.5 percent, stimulants – 5.3 percent, vegetables – 5.1 percent, food additives (e.g. mustard, ketchups, mayonnaise, etc.) – 4.8 % personal – 3.7 percent

What products are cheaper?

In the last places in the ranking, economic chemistry and art. loose (including sugar, flour), which stood by 2.6 and 0.4 percent

– In the case of economic chemistry, very high price increases in 2023 and at the beginning of last year created a high base. Currently, it results in low and even negative increases year -on -year in percentage. However, the high prices of these products are still felt in our portfolios. This is invariably affected by high production costs – from energy to labor costs. At the same time, the decrease in the prices of loose articles is symbolic – summed up Motylska -Kuźma.
