The Central Anticorruption Bureau and the Military Police have detained three men, including a technician of the Military Economic Unit in Wędrzyn, in connection with irregularities in orders for the army. They have heard the charges.
Press Team CBA informed that the suspects were detained in the Lubuskie Province between 8 and 9 July. The case concerns the abuse of power and failure to fulfil obligations by a public official – a civilian employee of the Polish Army.
The man, working as a senior technician of the Technical Maintenance Section of the Military Economic Unit in Wędrzyn (WOG), from March 2022 to December 2023, in connection with the public procurement procedures organized at WOG in a non-tender procedure, was alleged to have exceeded his powers and failed to fulfill his obligations.
The pole company, which was managed by the family
“While sitting on committees awarding orders and accepting completed works, he also participated in formulating offers by a construction company that applied for orders from WOG. The man also accepted previously forged documents as authentic,” the release stated.
According to investigators, the suspect inspired a so-called front company to be established, managed by his brother and wife. “The company obtained orders from WOG to perform renovation and construction works. This was done in violation of the WOG public procurement regulations. The value of the concluded contracts amounted to almost PLN 650,000. These actions constituted damage to the public and private interests of other entities to which the contracts in question were not awarded,” the press release explained.
Charges against three people
The investigation into this case is being conducted jointly by officers of the Poznań branch of the CBA, soldiers of the Military Gendarmerie in Wędrzyn and prosecutors of the 8th Department for Military Affairs of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Poznań.
The head of the department in the Military Department of the District Prosecutor's Office in Poznań, prosecutor Michał Wyszyński, informed that three detainees – a WOG technician, his brother and the man in whose name the company was formally established – were charged with exceeding their authority, falsifying documents and rigging public procurement. None of the suspects are soldiers.
Additionally, the technician’s wife is involved in the case and is responsible for falsifying documents submitted in public procurement procedures.
Preventive measures
The CBA reported that during the suspects' arrests, their apartments were searched. In turn, soldiers of the Military Police in the 45th Military Economic Unit in Wędrzyn secured documentation related to proceedings organized by WOG, and questioned witnesses – soldiers and military employees.
The suspects were subjected to preventive measures in the form of police supervision, a ban on contact with the suspects and other persons, and a property guarantee of PLN 20,000 and PLN 30,000. Additionally, a WOG employee was suspended from his duties, and one of the suspects was banned from leaving the country.
Additionally, as part of possible penalties and fines, the prosecutor secured, in cash and under a compulsory mortgage on real estate, the suspects’ assets in the total amount of over PLN 620,000.
The suspects face between one and 10 years in prison. The prosecutor's office does not rule out further arrests in this case.
