A check for the amount of EUR 49 million was found on a street in Lecce in southern Italy by a representative of that city's authorities. He admitted that he felt dizzy at the sight of so many zeros. He managed to find the owner of the check.
A small piece of paper was lying on the sidewalk near the entrance to the courier company, and was noticed by the head of the department, i.e. environmental protection assessor at the city government, Andrea Guido, local media from Puglia reported. When he picked up the piece of paper and saw that it was a check for such a huge amount, he couldn't believe his eyes. – It was a surreal amount – emphasized the local official, who immediately took action. – At first I thought I'd take the check to the police station. But then it occurred to me to contact the courier company and find out if they know the owner. It turned out that it was her client, whom they immediately notified, said Andrea Guido.
The money will stay in the city
The owner of the check was already at the Carabinieri station, where he reported the loss. Local media note that it is easy to imagine the faces of the gendarmes who heard the amount involved. The “LeccePrima” portal reported that a construction entrepreneur from that area lost the check. The head of the department left a valuable document with the courier company, which handed it to the businessman. – He hasn't spoken to me yet to thank me, but I'm glad because he can sleep soundly – said Guido. He emphasized that this story also has a second happy ending, because it turned out that the amount of EUR 49 million shown on the check would be invested in hotels in Lecce. – The money will stay with us – he added.
