The Minister of Foreign Affairs met with his counterpart from Gambia and thanked him for “the decision to appoint the Gambia Ambassador in Turkey, instead of the ambassador in Russia as the non -resident ambassador in Ukraine.” “This is a sign of respect,” added the head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Andriy Sybiha.
“I am grateful to Gambia for supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. I appreciate the decision to appoint the Gambia ambassador in Turkey, instead of an ambassador to Russia as an ambassador of a non -resident in Ukraine. This is a sign of respect” – wrote Sibiha in social media after meeting the Minister of Foreign Affairs Gambia Mambia Mambi.
The head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stayed on Friday in Turkey, where in Antalya, in the margins of a diplomatic forum, he met with ministers of foreign affairs of several African countries, including Alim Mohamed Omar with Somaliawith which he signed a report on bilateral relations.
Sybiha also announced plans Ukraine regarding the extension of cooperation with the African Union. “The war of Russia against Ukraine had serious consequences for Africa, such as the lack of food security and regional instability. Therefore, achieving just peace for Ukraine would also benefit our African partners. Ukraine is ready to strengthen cooperation with Benin and other African countries to increase food safety and support regional stability” – added the Ukrainian minister.
Last year, Ukraine opened seven diplomatic missions in Africa, among others in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mauritania and on the Coast of ivory. In December 2022, the President Wołodymyr Zelanski He declared that he would like Ukraine to be present in at least 30 African countries. He currently has 17 diplomatic representative offices on this continent.
