The popular Japanese chain of Sukya restaurants closed almost all its premises this week to clean. It happened as a rat and worm were found in eating.
Sukiya specializes in serving Gyudon, i.e. a dish consisting of beef, onion, rice and sauce.
It has almost two thousand facilities throughout the country. On Monday, almost all of them were closed to Friday.
This is the result of two recent incidents. In January in a restaurant located in Tottori, west Japanthe customer found a rat in a bowl with a miso soup. Last Friday, an insect was found in one of the Tokyo restaurants in the stew.

In a statement published on Saturday, the Sukiya network expressed deep regret for “great inconvenience and caused anxiety” and announced that most of the premises would be closed to conduct inspection and disinfestation.
The network apologizes, but after a while
Despite the fact that a photo of a rat in a bowl of Miso soup has been widely circulated in social media since January, Sukiya did not confirm the incident until the end of March. In a separate statement of March 22, she stated that “she would carefully review and implement further funds to prevent pests and rodents from entering” to their premises.
The statement stated that the cause of the accident was that the employee did not check the Miso soup before serving it. It was also reported that other customers did not suffer because of the event. After the last contamination incident on Friday in Tokyo, Sukiya announced that the injured customer received a refund. The network is investigating on site to determine the cause.
As of the last annual report, the network has 1957 premises in the country and 675 abroad – including China, Brazil, Thailand And in Taiwan. Its owner is Zensho Holdings, which has 18 different types of restaurant brands.
