People who criticize the presidential envoy Steve Witkoff are furious that they are successful where they have been defeated for 40 years – wrote the Vice President of the USA JD Vance. He stood up for Witkoff, who after the interviews was widely criticized and accused, among others, of repeating the Kremlin narratives.
JD Vance stood up on Monday in defense of Steve Witkoff after the criticism that appeared after his Friday interview with the pro -Russian publicist Tucker Carlson. Witkoff claimed that he did not consider Vladimir Putin to be a “bad guest” and seemed to legitimize fictitious referendums conducted in annexed by Russia Circums, claiming that “the overwhelming majority of residents of these regions expressed the desire to stay under Russia.”
A special US envoy for the Middle East He also reported his conversation with Putin with approvalin which the Russian leader told him that he prayed for Donald Trump after the assassination of his life. He also claimed that Russia does not want to take over all of Ukraine or intend to attack NATO.
“Steve Witkoff is a great guy who does an amazing job. People who criticize him are furious that he is successful where they were defeated for 40 years,” he wrote on the platform X Vance.
He added that “it turns out that a large part of diplomacy boils down to a simple skill: don't be an idiot.”
Witkoff about Putin: I take my word for it
Witkoff in a Sunday interview on Fox television partly withdrew from his statements suggesting the legitimacy of the annexation of Ukrainian territories. He only said that Russia plays their rights to them, and he was not standing on either side, but he repeated that he did not consider Putin a bad man, claiming that the conflict is not “black and white”. He also assessed again that Putin has no ambition to take control of the rest of Ukraine or attacking Europe.
– I just don't see him (Putin – ed.) He wanted to take over all of Europe … I believe him in this sense and I think that Europeans are also beginning to take this belief – he said.
The statements of the main participant of the negotiations with Russia brought a wave of criticism on him both in America and in Europe. Commentators, also conservative, accused Witkoff of naivety, lack of knowledge and repetition of the Kremlin narratives. Conservative publicist Marc Thiesen said on platform X that Witkoff is completely unprepared for his role.
“He is dealing with the KGB champion in psychological operations, who will play with him like a cat with a mouse,” he wrote.
Witkoff has been widely criticized
Thiesen's opinion was supported by, among others, the Republican Congressmen Don Bacon from Nebraska. In turn, the Fox News Brit Hume publicist criticized Witkoff for his relativizing Putin's crimes and aggression and claim that “each story has two sides”. – Putin is a tyrant, and his political opponents are often defined (thrown through windows – ed.). I wonder what this wizard considers to be the other side of these stories, “said Hume.
The statements of the envoy of Trump were also criticized by the daily “Wall Street Journal”, the former head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis or there were American diplomats. The Institute of War Research (Institute for The Study of War) assessed that Witkoff “uncritically repeated some false Russian claims regarding the status of Ukrainian territories that Russia illegally occupies.”
Witkoff, who, like Trump, comes from New York and the real estate industry, has been the president's friend for many years. Although he was originally appointed as an envoy for the Middle East, he also took a key role in negotiations regarding wars in Ukrainetwice meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
