A 39-year-old man who attacked paramedics a week ago, heard allegations of causing damage to health and violation of bodily integrity of people providing him. He will be responsible for his deed under recidivism.
The incident occurred on April 23. The Medical Emergency Team of the Provincial Ambulance Service in Katowice went to a patient who lost consciousness on the tram of line 46. After arriving at the tram stop at the roundabout of General Jerzy Ziętek in Katowice, the rescuers made a preliminary examination of a 39-year-old man and transferred him to the ambulance.
– During the journey to the hospital, the patient became more and more stimulated. Due to the fact that the doctor and the nurse were not able to control his aggression, it became necessary to stop the ambulance and ask for help from the driver to calm down the man. The perpetrator began to dig and hit the medics with his fists, as a result of which they left the ambulance and decided to close the patient inside it – said Prosecutor Miłosz Bystrzycki from the press team of the District Prosecutor's Office in Katowice
Policemen were called to the ambulance, where the man was assisted to the hospital.
It can go to prison for up to 4.5 years
After receiving the help, he was detained and then brought to the headquarters of the Katowice-Południe District Prosecutor's Office. There he heard allegations of violation of the bodily integrity of three people who are part of the Medical Rescue Team, as well as causing injuries in two of them.
The suspect committed these acts in the conditions of returning to the crime, because in the past he had already served imprisonment for committing crimes using violence, including an active assault on a public official. “The suspect confessed to committing these acts and refused to explain,” the prosecutor's office said. After performing with a suspicious procedural, the prosecutor applied to him police supervision and a ban on approaching and contacting the victims. – For violating bodily integrity and causing damage to health under 7 days, a person using legal protection provided for public officials is punishable by up to 3 years imprisonment. However, due to the perpetrator's actions in the conditions of “recidivism”, he faces a penalty of up to 4 years and 6 months imprisonment – explained Prosecutor Bystrzycki.
