A 56-year-old driver detained in Polanów (West Pomeranian Voivodeship) had 5.2 per mille of alcohol in his body. The police were called by witnesses concerned about the man's behavior. He spent New Year's Eve in custody.

Police officers from the Koszalin traffic police were called to Polanów. According to witnesses, the driver of the Opel had serious problems with holding the steering wheel when leaving the parking lot at one of the discount grocery stores. “The 56-year-old man performed dangerous maneuvers, and the car's engine kept turning off. A witness to the incident, seeing the actions of the Opel owner, ran up to him and took his keys, thus preventing him from driving any further,” the police reported.

He spent New Year's Eve in custody and faces prison time

The officers who intervened also reported that the man had “clear problems with maintaining balance and even putting sentences together.” A breathalyzer test showed that the 56-year-old had as much as 5.2 per mille of alcohol in his body.

The man was detained in police custody, where he spent New Year's Eve. After sobering up, he will be charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. He faces up to three years in prison, a driving ban and a heavy fine.
