Doctors had to amputate two fingers of a 16-year-old boy whose firecracker exploded in his hands while lighting it. More fireworks victims were admitted to the hospital in Koszalin (West Pomeranian Voivodeship) on New Year's Eve: one man had torn fingers and two others had facial injuries.
Marzena Sutryk, press secretary of the Provincial Hospital in Koszalin, said that New Year's Eve was “very busy” for the Hospital Emergency Department. A 16-year-old boy who needed help from doctors was admitted to the children's ward.
– He was injured by a firecracker explosion. It exploded in his hands while firing it. The teenager suffered serious injuries, especially his left hand, and two fingers had to be amputated. The 16-year-old was transported to a hospital in Szczecin, Sutryk said.
More victims of firecracker explosion
There were more people injured after fireworks explosions that night.
– Among the patients who required help from doctors was, among others: a man whose fingers were torn from a firecracker explosion. The next two cases were also victims of firecracker explosions, specifically two men, over 40 years old, who had facial injuries, including: cheek wounds. They required stitching and consultations – laryngological and ophthalmological – said Marzena Sutryk.
Two men under the influence of alcohol also reported to the Emergency Department and were beaten. And in the morning a patient with a head injury needed help.
